DIY: Saddle shoes!

I was in desperate need of some new shoes but I couldn't really afford to spend too much. SO while looking at the local DI I came across a pair of white canvas tennis shoes. The were in good condition and only $4.00 SO I though ok sure why not. Im not much of a white shoe person, They always get way too dirt. I decided I wanted to add something to them at first I thought I would just draw on them and add some color. But then I got a great idea. I was going to turn them into 1950's Saddle Shoes!

Here is my before picture (ignore the date, for some reason my camera like to get stuck in 2007)

Here is the After Picture!

All you have to do is get black fabric marker and TADA you have an awesome pair of Saddle Shoes!
They do need touched up a splash, I would recommend making them in a very brightly lit room that is well ventilated.

I hope to find more shoes that I can do things like this with, so I will be looking at the thrift stores often and keep you all posted.

Black Friday Madness

BLACK FRIDAY

Well Thanksgiving is coming up and as most people know that mean the busiest, craziest and best day to shop is also coming up.
I have to work Black Friday and I am so excited I can't wait for all the hectic  and craziness. I am also excited to watch everyone that just HAVE to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on that day and will do what ever they have to to get exactly what they want. People do insane things to make sure they get what they want for the price they think they should get.

A short history lessons (because they are so fascinating!)

The earliest known reference to refer the start of Christmas shopping to Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) was a newsletter from 1961 that is clear on the negative implications of the name and its origin in Philadelphia.

For downtown merchants throughout the nation, the biggest shopping days normally are the two following Thanksgiving Day. Resulting traffic jams are an irksome problem to the police and, in Philadelphia, it became customary for officers to refer to the post-Thanksgiving days as Black Friday and Black Saturday.

As many of you know people get stupid violent, Some people get injured other people have gotten killed.. And the shoppers never seem to care. They want their deals and they want to shop and they will not let anyone stop them!

I have never shopped on Black Friday and I never plan to. In my opinion the deals and the savings are not worth my life or someone else's life.
I'm curious to know what everyone else thinks about Black Friday, If you are one of the many insane and brave people that go shopping, I want to know why and if its really worth all the craziness?

Printed Denim: Hell yes or Hell no?

Printed denim is it a fashion hell yes or a hell no!? We see all the stars rocking this bold denim trend but should girls in real life be trying to sport this flashy trend?

I think that, just like colored jeans, printed denim can be pulled off if you wear them the right way and don't get too extreme with the patterns. Unless you are trying to make an outrageous statement then go crazy!

The trick with anything, including skinny jeans is that you need to put an outfit together that fits your body type best. Not all women should wear the short shirts and skinny jeans and not all women should wear the longer shirts with the skinny jeans. When you throw the print in it can either be a good thing or a really bad thing.
so here is the best way to balance out printed skinny jeans for your body type;

Hourglass: As I have said before you lucky ladies that have this dream of a body type can of course pull off anything with little work. If you want to make your legs and ass stand out then wear a bright large print, with a calmer shirt. If you want to be evenly proportioned then wear a small print, neutral colors and a neutral shirt. and if you want to make your top pop, do the neutral, small print denim with a bright top.

Rectangle: Since you are so evenly distributed you kind of have to work on giving your body shape. If you want to create an hourglass look then you should wear a large print with bold colors and a bright shirt that has detail of some kind on the shoulders and/or collar. But make sure that its not anything overwhelming. If you want to enhance your ass then you need to wear a large print skinny and a plain top, this way your jeans stand out. If you want to enhance your top then a small print on your skinny jeans with a bright, busy shirt.

Triangle: I know that this body type can prove difficult. If you want an hourglass look then you need to wear a medium print on the jeans and your top should be kind of busy on the collar and shoulders. If you are okay with your ass being the main focus then you should wear a small print on your skinny jeans (the small print will enhance that your hips are bigger then your shoulders) and a plain shirt. If you want to make your top stand out then you should wear a large print jean and a plain top, the large print makes your hips appear smaller so you don't need to do a lot on the top.

Inverted triangle: This body type is very difficult most of the time. If you want the hourglass shape then wear a small print on your jeans and a plain top. If you want your ass to be the main focus then wear a bright, small print jean and a plain neutral top. If you want your top to be the main focus then wear a large print jean and a plain shirt.

If you want to really be daring and stand out, you can mix patterns but you have to do it wisely. Don't wear the same pattern and balance out the patterns you use. For example: if you wear red snake skin pants don't mix it with a purple polka dot shirt, try something with small stripes or a subtle plaid.

Falls Favorite Colors

Say HELLO! to Cobalt blue and Eggplant purple this falls favorite colors!

Zac Posen
Jean Paul Gaultier

This winter catch EVERYONE'S eye with these stunning colors.
Depending on where your going and what your doing will determine what color you should wear out. whether it be a work party, on a hot date, to a play or just going out with the girls.
So here is a bit of color psychology to help you decide when yo add these fabulous colors.

Blue: Blue is associated with depth and stability. It symbolized trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith and trust.
Blue is a masculine color and is highly accepted with males. Blues like this beautiful Cobalt is associated with depth expertise and stability and is widely accepted in corporate America.

So if you have a hot date and want to be taken seriously, or you are going on the interview of a life time this color will help you to get the best outcome.

Purple: Purple is associated with Royalty. It symbolizes wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, mystery and magic. This color combines the stability of blue with the energy of red. Dark purple can cause frustration.

So if you are going out with the girls and don't care where the night is taking you, If you want to be bold and appear creative, independent or mysterious rock this color!

Both colors are awesome and will be sure to turn a head or two this winter. So go out and get a few pieces that will help make your winter wardrobe wonderful!

Here are few places where you can get these wonderful colors for a kick ass price.

Those are just a few of my favorite!

Dior's New Designer

On March 2, 2011 Galliano, after having a few drinks, had an out burst at a cafe in Paris. His antisemitic rant cost him his job as head designer at Dior , as well as a fine of $8,400 (6,000 pounds)

On April 9,2012 Raf Simons was appointed the new head designer at Dior. I was anxious to see the direction that he would take Dior after Gallianos creative reign.

First here is a little back story on Raf Simons.
Raf Simons was born on January 12, 1968, in Belgian. He started his career in the fashion industry in 1995 with Walter Van Beirendonck, in Paris as a menswear designer. in the summer of 2005 he was named creative director for the Jil Sander Label. Until April 9, 2012 when he was appointed head designer for Dior.
Raf Simons has a sophisticated style and is know fro dressing the corporate women.

Here are a few of the designs from Raf Simons 2013 Resort Line.
I found him to be a wonderful fit with Dior. He is classic, sophisticated and elegant. Everything that I think Dior should be. I look forward to seeing what else he brings.

Gaudy or Nice?

The fall fashion trend that I have seen pop up for a few falls in a row, Is black and gold. This fall they seem to be embellishing  black dresses and accessories with extravagant gold detail. Some of this clothing (mainly by Dolce and Gabbana) have an 18th century aristocratic flair to it. Does all that gold make these clothes a little bit gaudy or is it a lavish new style to embrace?

Dolce & Gabbana, fall 2012.
Dolce and Gabbana, Fall 2012

Fall 2012 Accessories

I think this trend can be worn in every day life so its not so overwhelming. Personally if I were to wear this trend I would wear the black and gold accessories with a solid colored outfit. If I were to wear the black and gold on an article of clothing it would be a black and gold bustier with a solid color to drowned out the flashiness.

What do you think about this fall trend? I'm Dying to know!

Maternity with style!

Rockabilly Maternity Clothes!

I am taking on a new project! My bestest friend is pregnant and it is so difficult to find cute maternity clothes in any style!
When I was pregnant I remember having several meltdowns and bawling my eyes out because I couldn't find anything that, not only fit right, but look good at the same time. I wore..pretty much the same pants through out my pregnancy and stretchy shirts. I felt insecure and depressed. I do not want other women to feel that way too. Not all pregnant women are petite with a cute baby bump! some women unfortunately blob out when they get pregnant, I sadly was of them. and a lot of my weight gain was from stress not the actual pregnancy. Every women wants the cute baby bump, but not everyone is that lucky.

SO, keeping my dear friend Heather in mind and her bad-ass style I am creating a rockabilly maternity line! I want women to feel as comfortable and gorgeous as they already are. I want them to be able to keep their style and not have to adapt to what little style of maternity clothes are out there.

I have researched rockabilly style maternity clothing and I would Like to say I found at least one site that had cute affordable clothes, but sadly I couldn't find anything! Nothing was cute AND affordable, even the expensive things weren't that cute and were clearly overpriced, I can understand why Heather is so annoyed with finding clothes.
Here are a few things that I found.

Cherry Shirt $45.00                                    Halter Dress $50.00

Elvis Striped Tee $29.95                     Swallow Banner Dress $49.95

As you can tell everything is really over priced for how simple it is.

A lot of the clothes I will be making will depend on creative construction and flexible shape. With fall and winter coming up I want her to be able to layer all the pieces and look like it all goes together. I will of course be sharing my progress and lessons with everyone, because I am going to be doing a lot! of trial and error.

I will be posting some of my sketches soon, I seem to be having some technical difficulties getting them on my computer.

Shopping edict for parents

PARENTS! please read this!

While I was working today there was a toddler screaming at the top of her lungs, It sounded like she was dying! I look around concerned, as do other people and I see a mom trying to get her toddler to listen to her. The mother then continued shopping while her daughter screamed, tried clothes on and even returned items, She let her child scream bloody murder for at least a half hour! it was ridiculous!!!

I have of course had a few days like this working in retail but I have never seen or heard anything like this before in my life it was rude.

So for all parents who just aren't sure how to handle a meltdown in the middle of a store here are a few tips on proper shopping edict when you are shopping with your kids.

*If your kids a screaming at the top of their lungs, throwing themselves down on the ground, kicking or hitting. LEAVE THE STORE!!!
-If you stay it is beyond rude. you are interrupting everyone in the store, you don't need anything THAT badly. leave and come back another time
* DO NOT let your kids run around the store.
* DO NOT let them climb on things.
* WATCH THEM

If you follow those simple steps then shopping won't be a headache for you and everyone around you.

* You should always have a talk with your kids before you go into any store, you need to tell them the correct way to act in a store, the consequences for not acting the way they should and a small reward if they act the right way.
             - here is an example; My son is three we have had this talk before every store we go into and it goes like this:
"we are going to go into the store, so I need you to behave. You need to listen to me, no yelling and no tantrums. If you are good you get a little drink or treat but if you don't behave then we will leave without getting anything and you will go on a time out when we get home and I will go to the store later alone."

My son has only ever had one tantrum in a store because when he did we went home without getting anything, and he had a time out when we got home.
The key to making sure any talk with your kids work is to fallow through with what you say. If you tell your kids that you will leave with nothing and they will go on time out, you have to do it! if you don't then they wont listen to anything you say.

Shopping should be enjoyable for everyone! Please help keep your kids under control so you can have a pleasant shopping experience too.

More Peplums Please!

Short, Long, Flat, Full, Sheer, Stiff....... Whats the best one for you?

Me and my sister were talking about 2012 Fall Trends, Peplums are one of my favorites! I told her she would look amazing in a Peplum. She didn't agree with me. I think any body type can pull off a Peplum you just have to wear it right and it has to be the right style and size of Peplum. Of course the hourglass silhouette is the best for this feminine trend but that's one of the many advantages of Peplums, you can easily get this ideal shape just wear it the right way.

For those of you that don't know here is the definition of a Peplum;
Peplum [ˈpɛpləm]
n pl -lums, -la [-lə]
(Clothing & Fashion) a flared ruffle attached to the waist of a jacket, bodice, etc.

Body types:

Hourglass
You all are luck, basically just wear it and you'll rock it.

Pear shaped women (aka a triangle)
Wear a Peplum that is medium to large and be sure you wear something on top that has some shoulder detail or a puffed sleeve shoulder. That will give the garment an hourglass look. only wear a small Peplum if you aren't going to balance it out on the top.

Inverted triangle
Wear sleeveless or little shoulder detail and a Peplum that is full and medium to large sized. If you have too much shoulder detail it will make you look unbalanced.

Rectangle
Keep the proportions as even as you can, If you wear a large Peplum then wear larger shoulder detail, small Peplum then little to no detail.

Peplums are a classic look, I'm glad they are popping up more and more. I am very much pear shaped and I love Peplums because I can hide my "trouble" areas and look even more feminine and have the hourglass shape everyone wants.

Fashion HELL NO or HELL YES!?

This is one fashion statement that some women just cant understand is a HELL NO!
Leggings for pants.
I don't care how amazing your ass looks, LEGGINGS ARE NOT PANTS!

*This image brought to you by Tumblr

I was going into a restaurant with a friend of mine and we saw this girl sitting out front wearing leggings (not just leggings but fashion leggings, so holy and see through) and a shirt that didn't not cover her ass, I asked my friend if he thought the leggings made her look easy? Because to me, when I see a girl dressed like that it says easy,  He told me that of course his mind started fantasizing about things he would do to her.
So ladies if you want to be fantasized about by random strangers please keep wearing your leggings as pants. If your an actually lady please fallow these simple guidelines to wearing leggings.

- Make sure your top covers your ass (mid-thigh is best)
- Make sure there are no bulges showing. (get the right size, so it is tight but not so tight your boiling over)
- Its best to wear a tunic or a mini skirt, longer skirts can look funny if its not one right
and finally
- Wear the right footwear (sandals, flats, heels or boots)

Fallow these simple rules and your golden!
